What was done to this Porsche Cayman GT4?

The GT4 had a full colour change from yellow to deep metallic green.

A colour change on a GT4 is about more than looks. It preserves the original paint underneath, changes the presence of the car completely, and can be reversed later. For another Porsche colour change, see the Porsche 911 997 colour change.

How was the colour change done?

The surfaces were prepared first, then each panel was covered, aligned and finished. The edges were finished carefully so the new colour looks like factory paint.

Step by step, this is how the GT4 was done:

Step by step on this Porsche Cayman GT4

These stills come from the full build video further down the page, so every photo shows this exact car in our Al Quoz studio.

What makes the GT4 a tricky car to colour change?

The Cayman GT4 is covered in details designed for airflow: a deep front bumper with large intakes, vents in the bonnet, big side intakes behind the doors feeding the mid mounted engine, and a fixed rear wing. Each of those is a place where film has to be stretched into a recess or wrapped around a sharp edge, and each is a place where a rushed job shows lifting or the original yellow peeking through.

That is why the surface preparation and panel alignment mattered so much on this car. The aim of a colour change is a finish that looks factory, with no hint of the old colour at the edges, from the front intakes to the wing. Close ups in the video show the depth and texture of the green on the finished car.

Is a colour change better than a respray?

A colour change keeps the factory paint intact, which matters on a GT4 where original paint supports resale value. It is also reversible, and the film protects the paint while it is on.

How did the GT4 look when it was finished?

The GT4 left in a deep metallic green with clean edges and a factory level finish.

Wrap or colour PPF: which is right for you?

Both change the colour while keeping the original paint underneath. A traditional vinyl wrap is thinner and mainly changes the look. Colour PPF is a thicker, self healing film with the colour built in, so it changes the colour and protects against chips at the same time, which suits a car like a GT4 that is driven hard. Colour PPF at Apex starts from AED 15,000 before 5% VAT, depending on the car and options. See another colour change on our Tesla Model Y Juniper purple wrap job.

How much does a colour change cost in Dubai?

Colour change is priced per car, because it depends on the size of the car, the colour and finish chosen, and how far into the door shuts you want the colour to go. Send your car details on WhatsApp for a quote. Our Porsche PPF Dubai guide covers protection options too.

How do you look after a colour change?

Hand wash with a pH neutral shampoo, avoid brush car washes, keep pressure washer jets away from edges, and clean off bird droppings and bugs quickly in the Dubai heat.

For a very different Cayman project, see the Porsche Cayman S 987 livery wrap we designed and fitted for Zeus Offroad’s Project Sandfish.

Frequently asked questions

What did Apex Detail Studio do to this GT4?

We changed the colour of the whole car from yellow to deep metallic green, with the original paint preserved underneath.

Does a colour change damage the original paint?

No. The original paint stays underneath and is protected while the colour change is on.

Can a colour change be reversed?

Yes. The film can be removed later to bring back the original colour.

Are the door shuts done too?

Door shuts and edges can be included. Ask for them when you request a quote.

How much is a colour change in Dubai?

It is priced per car. Send your car details and the colour you want on WhatsApp for a quote.

How long does a full colour change take?

Usually several days, depending on the car and the level of detail. The team confirms timing with your quote.

Can the GT4 wing and intakes be covered in the new colour?

Yes. The goal of a full colour change is that no original colour shows, so recesses, intakes and edges are wrapped as part of the job.
